2013 is shaping up to be another great year for video games, possible even better than 2012. With major releases in every genre and for every system, as well as rumours of some impending console announcements, 2013 should be an exciting year for gamers. Continue after the break to see our five most anticipated games of this year.
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - January 22
While a JRPG on PS3 usually wouldn’t pique my interest, Ni No Kuni has something extra special going for it. Studio Ghibli, the people behind such classic movies as My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, and Kiki’s Delivery Service, are heavily involved in the development of the game. Their unique art and animation style as well as their odd and sometimes insane character design permeate the game, forming an experience that should be entirely unique.
Elder Scrolls Online - Sometime in 2013
The wildly popular Elder Scrolls series will finally go multiplayer this year with the release of The Elder Scrolls Online. While many gamers have become bored of the same tired MMO formula, Elder Scrolls Online promises to change it up with more of a focus on real time, dynamic combat and a unique PvP system that will see a single player become the emperor of Tamriel. Even if the gameplay doesn’t live up to what has been promised, the prospect of exploring the whole of the Elder Scrolls universe with friends should be enough to make this a buy for many.

Bioshock Infinite - March 26
While I've never actually finished the first entry in the Bioshock series (I'm playing through it right now so don't get too upset with me, internet) and I haven't touched the sequel apart from watching a friend play it for an hour, I can't help but be excited for the next installment. The setting and the style alone are enough to get me to play this game, but the story, the stellar looking gameplay, and the crazy clockwork bird creature are just icing on the cake. The more I hear about this game, the more I want to play it.
Grand Theft Auto V - Spring
I haven't met a single gamer who isn't excited about this release. One of the most popular open-world games in the world will be returning this year, once again letting players explore the San Andreas area and wreak havoc. Not only will GTA V have the largest area to explore in the series, but players can also take control of three different characters when they play, swapping between them during missions for alternate viewpoints or interrupting their daily lives to steal the nearest car and drive it into the river.
Watch Dogs - Sometime in 2013
Ever since Watch Dogs was unveiled by Ubisoft Montreal at last year's E3, people have been clamoring for more. The promise of being able to manipulate an alternate universe Chicago with a variety of hacking tools seemed to appeal to a lot of gamers, and rightly so. While details so far have been scarce, it looks like Ubisoft Montreal might have another hit series on their hands with this game.
Honorable Mentions: The Last of Us, Deadspace 3, SimCity, Star Wars 1313, Dark Souls 2
